Let's see if we can get more people to comment this time around - i love seeing diversity and opinions from everyone on stuff like this! So bring some people on over to comment, but most of all make sure you leave your list.
What are your top 12 comic books of all time. I know - this is a very very hard one to narrow down (at least for me) i love and adore comics, just as most of you do. BUT for the sake of conversation over this ~ here are my following faves that strike my mind at the moment:
(in no order at all)
Promethea
Wet Moon
Akira
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac
Strangers in Paradise
Calvin and Hobbes
The Maxx
Cerebus
100%
Little Nemo in Slumberland
Understanding Comics
Bone
HONORABLE MENTIONS (its so hard to not at least mention these great titles...)
Sin City, HellBoy, Kabuki, Jimmy Corrigan, Suckle/Ripple/Crumple, The Smurfs, Invisibles, Batman:Killing Joke, Acme Novel Library, Frank, Hard Boiled, AllStar Superman, Nausica, Buddha, Clumsy, American Elf, Love&Rockets, Lenore, The Abandoned, Mountain Girl, FLCL, SoulEater, Danger Girl, Crumb, Dan Clowes, and A.L.I.E.E.E.N. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
here are a few to comment upon:
HELLSPAWN (started strong Bendis and Ashley Wood - and then lost its luster with Steve Niles writing it >_<
Battle Chasers - WTF MAD! it's such a love/hate relationship as he created such a great story then left us all with a big F**K you with not finishing that series. so yeah >_< finish yo shit!
X-MEN - !so as most comic kids these days, i grew up with the marvel pulp series. BUT these series are all so inconsistent - i suppose it can't be blamed when it has been such a prolific series that dates back longer than i've been alive. BUT - i grew up, and i grew really sick of men in tights and all the horrid ploys they ran along with allowing so many bad artists working on the series. So yeah - there's a small part in me that is a really big fan of the idea and the characterizations within the x-groups. Otherwise - i really get pissed that comics are belittled by most to be compared only to books about self proclaimed heroes who tend to have a spandex fetish. ((it should be noted - Grant Morrison made some great work with this series - just as he did with AllStar Superman - there's so much to be said about a writer that can revitalize a dead series))
SO THERE! POST YOUR STUFF UP - AND COME BACK OFTEN TO THROW SOME COMMENTS AROUND! PERHAPS I WON'T MAKE IT TO THIS GOAL: LET'S SAY- NO MORE JOURNALS OR ART POSTS FROM ME UNTIL WE GET AT LEAST 20 COMMENTS (my comments dont count toward this)!
we shall see ^__^

Watchmen
Preacher
Hellblazer (certain writers)
Bone
Grant Morrison's New X-men
Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men
JTHM

this one was harder than the top 12 movies one.
BUT! one must strive for something
out of the norm.
I'm here for community and networking -
but i'm hoping it can reach more people over time.
plus these top lists are quite fun! I can't tell you how many great movies i learned about from the last one. So now is the time to shine some light on the comics scene!....
I've always been curious with Fables - where or what book would you recommend the most? I think i might pick that and the new All*Star Batman series. The covers for Fables are just amazing [James Jean] i think you can pre-order the book coming out that collects them.
It's too bad there isn't more international exchange within comics! Perhaps this will change eventually. ^__^

Comic store owners always have these funny little quirks or traits...
It's not always a negative thing - they're just characters, BUT i do think it deters a large amount of new costumers into the market.
